Class1: We will visit the principal port of Baltimore and base of the O’ Driscoll clan Dun na Sead – we will visit and the islands including Cape with Dun an Oir and Sherkin with Dun na Long overlooking the anchorage. We visit Heir, Ringaroige, Spanish, Sandy and the Skeames. We look at the influence of the fishing industry on the area for over 1000 years and the infamous Sack of Baltimore by the Algerian pirates in 1631 and we will take a peek up the Ilen River and more of the smaller islands. Eddie English has sailed these waters for over 50 years and shares his passion for the area with you in this special class.
Class 2: The O’ Mahony clan moved west nearly 1000 years ago and pushed the O’ Driscolls from their northwestern terrotories – Ballydehob, Rossbrin, Schull, Crookhaven and Horse, Castle, Long, Coney and Goat Islands. This is a fantastic boating area and includes the Fastnet Rock. Great stories including the “Fish Pallaces” and the Leamcon Pirates.
