SailCork is the training partner of Dublin Under Sail and Brian Ború .This course is for young people aged 13-17 with or without sailing experience, an ideal Transition year course to do or anyone with a view to a career at sea. Courses run in both Dublin and Cork harbour.

Join Tall Ship ‘Brian Boru” in Dublin or Cork harbour for 5 days live aboard learning Comp crew skills, team work, cooking at sea and having a blast!  Supervision at all times onboard by a qualified Skipper.

Boat Brian Ború is a gaff rigged sailing ketch (i.e. with two masts). She was a fishing boat (the ‘Investor’), built in Scotland of larch and oak in 1961, and converted to a sailing vessel in 2013. She is 20 metres long (including bow sprit), 5.5 metres beam and draws 2.6 metres. On Sail Training Voyages we usually travel with 10 trainees and 3 or 4 crew (including a mentor).

Objective Be capable of taking an active part as the crew of a cruising yacht including watchkeeping

Equipment Included The Boat has full safety equipment, all nav. aids and powerful engines. The safety equipment includes lifejackets and harnesses for each crew member.
What to bring Soft bag with change of warm clothes, Your own sailing waterproofs and change of footwear. Sunblock and hat. A SMILE !
Meals Each trainee is required to do a shift on galley duty (kitchen), two trainees at a time. Part of the galley duties will be shopping for food at the beginning of the trip and at ports along the way. The mentor or a member of the professional crew will support you and guide you in your galley duties. If you have a favourite recipe, why not scale it up for 14 people, great life skills.
