Special Junior (under 16) Powerboat Course : 2 Days 10:00 to 16:30

SailCork have been teaching juniors afloat since the mid 1970’s and pioneered the Powerboat Scheme in Ireland. It was no surprise to the maritime community when Eddie English and his crew were the first powerboat school in Ireland to develop a special scheme especially for juniors.

The Junior Powerboat Course provides a practical introduction to boat handling skills in open power driven craft. We offer two different levels for juniors – beginner and improver. These courses are specially designed for juniors by our team of experienced powerboat instructors. Pupils learn how to be a useful crew in a powerboat and move on to develop skills necessary to drive a powerboat – learning that safety is no.1 !

Most of the courses are run from the SailCork base at East Ferry Marina, Cobh in Cork Harbour. During the summer season we also run a programme of courses in Baltimore, Crookhaven and Crosshaven – all in Co. Cork

Course contents: 1. Launch and recovery. 2. Preparation of boat and crew 3. Paddling and rowing. 4. Boat handling – starting stopping steering. 5. Leaving shore or a marina and coming alongside a marina, pier or boat. 5. Being towed – preparing and actions during a tow. 6. Safety – avoiding problems, how to cope in adverse conditions, calling for help.
