Beginning on Wed evening Jan 31st 2024, for 14 classes on Zoom +1 full day attendance on Sat March 2nd at RCYC, Crosshaven, Co.Cork. Eddie English and the SailCork team will deliver our popular RYA Day skipper Shorebased Navigation course in a blended format. The syllabus will be taught using a mix of videos, presentations and interactive tutorials on Zoom. We will use Google Classroom to deliver and monitor course material. You must set up a Gmail address for the course. This is an interactive distance learning course with great customer care !

Suits all boaters in: RIB and Motorboats, Yachts, Sea Anglers, Kayakers, Water skiiers, Swimmers, Jet skiiers or those just messing around on boats. Also ideal for T/Y students or those interested in a career at sea.

Course director Eddie English is an ISA/RYA Yachtmaster Examiner. Eddie’s reputation is recognised worldwide having sailed in Europe, the Caribbean, the Mediterranean, the USA, Australia and the Pacific. Eddie is supported by Yachtmaster Instructor and Senior Powerboat Instructor, Peter Scallan.

Time is 19:30- 22:00 live on Zoom every Wed evening (Spring course)

Time for Face to Face : 09:30-17:30 is on Sat March 2nd at the Royal Cork Yacht Club, Crosshaven, Co.Cork

Length of Course 14 evening classes 19:30-22:00 + 2 classes face to face full day on Sat March 2nd 2024 at RCYC. Classes will be recorded so don't worry if you miss one.
Objective You will be capable of planning and executing coastal and inshore navigation in daylight hours.
Location Attend from your own home weekly by using Zoom and Google classroom with the SailCork Tutors led by Eddie English live throughout the duration of the class.
Equipment Included RYA pack containing exercise book, course book and practice charts.
What to bring The RYA course pack is part of your course fee. You must purchase the following list through the SailCork office : Training Almanac; 7" Single handed dividers; Portland Plotter; RYA Nav Handbook;RYA Weather handbook; Understanding a Nautical Chart book. Total incl post is €130. Also bring an A4 Notebook + folder, pens, highlighter, 2B pencils, eraser, sharpener.A laptop or desktop computer (Windows, Apple or Chromebook), with a broadband connection suitable for Zoom sessions. You will need to install the Zoom app on your computer with audio and video facilities. Note that using a tablet or phone will not meet the requirements of the course due to limitations of screen size.
Syllabus Nautical terms, Ropework, Anchorwork, Safety, Rules, Position, Charts(paper and electronic), Navigational Publications, Navigational Instruments, Compass, Chartwork, Tides (Heights and Streams), Visual Aids to Navigation, Meteorology, Passage Planning, Navigation in Restricted Visibility, Pilotage and the Marine Environment.
