Sail on a 36 ft Yacht from the picturesque East Ferry Marina, to the historic waters of Cork Harbour. See the magnificent town of Cobh from the sea with the majestic backdrop of the Cathedral, see Spike Island and Haulbowline – the home to our Naval base. Learn the ropes from your Skipper-Instructor as we progress towards Roches Point lighthouse at the entrance to the Harbour and sail the waters where the tragic Titanic and Lusitania once anchored.

This course is for complete beginners or experienced sailors who wish to go yachting. The session is geared towards fun and is a gentle introduction to sailing and the wonderful Cork Harbour.  Anchor in a sheltered cove and enjoy Jo English’s special homemade soup followed by delicious home baked cake! A fantastic day for both tourists and those who want to give yachting a go. A great gift!

Boat "Holy Grounder" is a Beneteau First 36.7. She is 36' long and has accommodation for 8 crew. She is spacious, modern and fast yet comfortable and forgiving!
Length of Course Seven hours.
Objective Gain an appreciation of what yacht sailing entails.
Location Cork Harbour.
Equipment Included The Boat has full safety equipment, all nav. aids and powerful engines. The safety equipment includes lifejackets and harnesses for each crew member. Waterproofs are available on request.
What to bring Warm layers, rain proof jacket and pants, sea boots or runners. No black soled mountain boots or stilettos!
Meals Delicious home cooked lunch served on board - Anchor in a sheltered cove and enjoy Jo English's special homemade soup followed by delicious homebaked cake! Jo's cooking is legendary at SailCork!
Syllabus

Basic knowledge of sea terms. Introduction to steering. Introduction to sail handling. Introduction to ropework. Demonstration of navigation and pilotage.
